By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Jan. 8 - Tour of Oman will continue as scheduled from February 14-19, said Eddy Merckx, the race director. “The Tour of Oman will be ridden. No doubt about it,” he was quoted saying by cyclingnews.com Merckx was the organiser of both races in Qatar and Oman, with help from Tour de France organiser ASO. In December, it was reported that the Tour of Qatar would not take place in 2017 due to a lack of sponsorship. Its cancellation had provoked speculation that the Tour of Oman would go the same way, especially following some concerns ahead of last year’s edition. The Tour of Oman is an annual professional road bicycle racing stage race being held in Oman since 2010 as part of the UCI Asia Tour. The race is organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation, and was held for the first time between 14 and 19 February 2010. The race is a men’s competition consisting of six stages. The race contains mainly flat stages, with some hillier parts.
